The artificial water caves in the basement of the building were constructed by Anna Maria Francesca of Tuscany in Italian style, and in building terms are the result of their Baroque origins in early 18th century, several Neo-Classical adaptations in the late 18th century, and local interventions during a romantic Rococo reconstruction. The entire grotto consists of six areas with Baroque fountains with figurative decorations and some relief ruins of ancient buildings on the walls. In relation to the southern facade, the grotto forms the ground-floor rooms of the chateau, while in relation to the northern facade they form the cellars.
